Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve

 

The Reserve offers a diverse array of habitats -- from dense riparian areas along the Tijuana River to coastal maritime sage scrub on top of Spooner's Mesa. An extensive system of trails link varied habitats in the fertile river valley, with many miles available for horseback riding.  Maps and area information are located at the park ranger office at 2721 Monument Road.   Visit www.tijuanaestuary.com for maps and hours of operation.

 

 


Tijuana River Valley Regional Park


From North County San Diego, take Interstate 5 south to Dairy Mart Road exit, turn west. Several hundred feet after Dairy Mart Road becomes Monument Road, Turn left on Hollister St. You will see the Ranger Station on the left\west side of the road. 
Horse trails connect the central trail staging area to the Pacific Ocean. Trail head parking is due west from the Visitor Center off of Hollister St.. Pullouts for trailers, two (2) pipe corrals, and picnic tables are available at this location for staging.

Border Field State Park


On the southern edge of the Reserve is another equestrian staging area with pullouts for trailers two (2) pipe corrals, and the all-important porta-potty.  Even though Tijuana River (see above) is nicer if you are looking for a place to picnic, these facilities are fine for staging.   Located due south of the central trail staging area on Monument Road.   The staging area and porta-potty are just outside the gate to the park
